Our Community

At STEM the Gap, we believe that strong communities are built when everyone invests in the potential of every child. Our work is deeply rooted in the Sioux Falls community, where we partner with local schools, colleges, families, and organizations to create opportunities for students from all backgrounds.

We serve a diverse student body in the Sioux Falls School District, where nearly half of all students live in poverty. By connecting students with college mentors, providing academic support, and offering enrichment activities, we help bridge opportunity gaps and build a brighter future for our city.

How We Engage the Community

  • School Partnerships: We collaborate with local schools to identify students who can benefit most from our programs and to coordinate tutoring and mentoring sessions.
  • College Mentors: College students from Augustana University and other local institutions serve as tutors and mentors, building relationships that inspire and motivate younger students.
  • Family Involvement: We encourage parents and guardians to stay engaged with their child's progress, attend enrichment events, and provide feedback to help us improve.
  • Community Events: Our enrichment activities include summer camps, science fairs, guest speakers, and field trips that bring together students, families, and community leaders.
  • Volunteers & Partners: We welcome volunteers and partner organizations who share our mission of educational equity and youth empowerment.
